Well yes, sorta. We had a banana war over here in the EU: the Germans fond of the big dollar brand bananas from Central and South America vs. the French wanting to import larger quantities of the small bananas from their former colonies. Dunno who won, since I donīt eat much bananas.
Frankly, EU regulations about foodstuff are pretty weird. It is not allowed to put soy bean products into sausages, because they must be made of animal products, i.e. "meat". There is a legal defintition about what being meat however. After having read this I advocate putting plenty of soy beans into sausages. Itīs like Upton Sinclairs novel about slaughterhouses in Chicago: The only thing of an animal that cannot be used for sausages is the squeaking of a pig. Things go on with the definition of marmelade (doesnīt have anything to do with the beautiful stuff your mother may have been cooking from fruits and sugar when you were a child) and chocolat. The wors argument was about the definition of beer, especially over here in Germany since we had the "Reinheitsgebot", an ancient law from the 16th (?) century that said it is only allowed to use water hops malt and barley. Beers in other European coutries are made of a certain amount of rice and vitamin "C". I could write books about this, but you wouldnīt want to eat anything anymore...
